Clip: National Anthem Of Bangladesh Peter Breiner (b. 1957) is a Slovakian pianist, conductor, composer, educator, and TV personality, now resident in Toronto, Canada. He has arranged as well as conducted the Anthem, and has done both jobs with considerable skill and panache. Perhaps mindful that this music is often played outdoors by large ensembles of brass and wind, Breiner has generally favored those choirs and kept his strings in a supporting and often doubling role. But where a quiet and lyrical passage suggests their use, the strings come to the fore. Most classical enthusiast will be familiar with the Slovak RSO, especially if they have acquired a number of Marco Polo and Naxos recordings. No one has ever insisted that it equals the world's best ensembles, but on its frequent better days it plays with a high degree of musical warmth and expressiveness. That is the happy case with this tune. Furthermore, Breiner and Slovakians manage to bring a proper weight, dignity, and swagger to this fine melody. |
